About me

I'm a Leicester based Freelance Designer and Animator. I have 15 years industry experience and I work to the simple principle that high quality, properly considered digital media is good for reaching audiences effectively. My work always focuses on delivering the right message for my clients.

My experience in design and animation gives me the tools to advise clients on the right way to communicate with their customers, establish a tone of voice that will work with their brand and deliver beyond clients' ideas and expectations. I spend time researching my clients' products and services, getting to the root of the issue.

I'm also co-founder of the Motion Graphic Design and Branding agency, Moving. We work across all media so we also deliver creative treatments in web and print to complement digital media.

Not all of my work can be shown on this site for various reasons, but if there's anything you'd like to see more of, please get in touch or browse some other videos on my Vimeo channel.

How my costs are worked out

Prices vary from project to project and costs are mostly based on time required, complexity and scale. My work aims to provide a high return on investment so costs are easily covered by gains. If you have a budget to work to, I'll happily explain what's achievable if you can tell me a bit about your project. I also work closely with selected script writers, voiceover artists, camera operators, and producers.

How does the animation process work?

Firstly, I'll discuss the client's project either by email or phone. Once we've got an idea of budget, we'll find similar styles that work for the client's needs. When we've agreed on a cost and a style, I'll write the script (or engage a copywriter). Then we work on the storyboards and an agreed style before starting the animation work. Then I'll send progress at regular intervals until the project is complete. The process is always a close working relationship between myself and the client and I pride myself on my quick communication. I'm happy to text / voice chat over Skype too, so everybody's kept up to speed at all times.

Will I pitch ideas for your project?

Yes, if you are willing to talk over the project first, establish a brief and provide a budget for the pitch. The initial ideas phase of a project is often the most valuable part of the process. I'm usually happy for clients to show my work if it helps to win new business, but please ask my permission to show my work first.

Teaching / Workshops

I welcome any opportunity to teach / host a workshop. I regularly work with College and Degree level students studying graphic design, animation or creative studies and believe it is important to mentor the next generation of designers. Prices for lectures or workshops are negotiable depending on audience numbers, travel and teaching requirements.
